First run of the year: 3.35 miles.
With wu/cd, it was 3.7 miles on the treadmill. I’m pretty happy about that.
I never understood why people didn’t like running on the treadmill until this year. Now I understand. I had done more than 3 miles on a treadmill before, but maybe only once or twice. At least a year apart. Now I have run more than 3 miles on a treadmill more than 3 times in less than 10 days. I understand.
While I do own a treadmill, it’s far more entertaining to watch people at the gym and have 6 TVs than to plug away with at home. With one TV. And an adorable dog sleeping on the couch (oh, she’s so cute!).
After running, I did some core weights and stretched (hopefully) really well.
This time last year where was I? I was Here and Here. Totals from 2012 are as follows:
The first Time/Distance was for the last week in December. The YTD Time is in minutes (obviously). Not bad for a holiday week when we had a house full of company. Regarding the YTD numbers? I am beyond elated!
But the next chart is a little disappointing. I missed my number of tri-sport specific hours by over 30, and miles by over 200. I think I set my sights too high. Still, that’s better than I have ever done in my life! I am going to claim this as a victory!
Joe Friel’s Triathlete’s Training Bible suggests 300-500 hours for the year if one does a Sprint, but I broke it down a little for a more “realistic” ME goal. I chose a number of hours and miles I hoped to accomplish each week in the three sports and multiplied it out by 52. I’m short in both areas–but WAY better than I have ever done before in my life! I mean, look at those running miles above! I almost ran 200 miles last year! Let me show you my numbers again from 2011:
Seriously! Look at swimming. I swam 37.57 more miles this year than last!
And Biking? 188.34 more miles this year!
And Running? 81.52 more miles this year!
I’m going to keep those Tri-sport specific goals, however, and hit them in 2013. Plus some.
Anyway, I’m glad I’m here now. The fact that I can run 3.35 miles on January 3 gives me great hopes for doing a 5k, 7k, and even a 10k later this year. I’ve already signed up for one 5k, will soon sign up for the O’Rourke, the Olathe, and a Danskin Triathlon. I will find a 10k and train my butt off for it.
In the meantime, I am hoping for some really positive changes in 2013 that I plan to make happen–as much as I can. I wish all of you wonderful luck with your goals this coming year. In the meantime, enjoy the ride!
And thanks Coach Dave and TNT for getting me on the right track!!!

I guess if I lived where it’s cold I’d get used to it, but I sure don’t like running on treadmills!
Congrats on the miles!! I live where it is cold and I don’t do treadmill unless absolutely necessary…criteria…single diget temperatures, ice…otherwise I’m outside!!
Thanks! I don’t like running enough to go outside when the weather is cold. I admire you and my hubby who run when it’s 10′ outside!
Congrats on beating your year over year totals by so much… It’s all good.
Yay! I am so happy! I hope to beat 2012′s numbers in 2013!!!
Go by what feels right to you. I logged 505 hours last year and 350 hours in 2011- and I did a half iron tri and marathon in both years. That is a lot of hours for a sprint.
Awesome advice, it is just such a good feeling to see the increased numbers!
I agree, still going to try
